THE GRANT FARM
Time sure flies, doesn’t it! I have been working hard since leaving ENB to fly solo, and this has proven to be an eventful summer. First of all, check out the new page entitled “The Grant Farm.” This is only the beginning of a righteous new band. We are planning to record a CD this Fall. Keep your ears open for that. For being a brand-new group (well, a couple years in the making…) we have already made a mark on the scene with festival performances at Pagosa Folk N’ Bluegrass Festival, Yarmonygrass, Fort Collins Bark and Bluegrass, and The Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival. We have also laid down the law at such Front Range clubs as Quixote’s True Blue, Whistler’s, andOskar Blues. Although the band began in 2010 as a progressive Bluegrass outfit, it has become a rock and roll band. We pull out the bluegrass lineup occasionally, but you will see on The Grant Farm page that most of our live performances these days are with the electric band. We have enough original material to record a full-length CD, but we have all been too busy to get that started this Summer. We are seeking help on the business side of things (booking agent, publicist, etc.). For the time being I am taking care of all that. SHEEEESH!
My busiest side project is The Romano Paoletti Band. Romano is an excellent vocalist and a talented songwriter. His band has dominated the scene at Oskar Blues for years. Check out his excellent CD, produced by bassist brother Eric Thorin. I have also performed with Taarka, Tony Furtado, Peter Rowan, Nathan Blake Lynn, The Grant Farm Duo (Andy Thorn and Me), and I have played more solo concerts that ever before. In 2011 I have recorded with Taarka, Diane Dandeneau, Chris Thompson, and Gary Bragg.
Six down, two to go! It all began with The Peaceful Bend Americana Festival and Flatpicking Camp, an almost secret getaway at the Peaceful Bend Winery in the Ozark Hills near Steelville, MO. Sign up for this one next year! As lovely as the name implies. In June I was off to Tennessee for my second year as instructor at Steve Kaufman’s Acoustic Kamp. This Kamp has won the Gold Award for Excellence by the Acoustic Guitar Magazine readers’ poll many years running, and deservedly so! In July it was the uncomparable Rockygrass Academy, followed by Augusta Heritage Bluegrass Week in Elkins, WV and Grand Targhee Bluegrass Camp at the Grand Targhee Resort in Wyoming on the West side of the Grand Tetons! To finish off the Summer teaching I leave the country this Saturday for two weeks of The British Columbia Bluegrass Workshop in Sorrento, BC. I am grateful for the opportunity to be an instructor, and I do the best job I possibly can at each of these Music Camps.
